The operator of a white Dodge Durango was driving at a high rate of speed northbound on Homestead when she crashed and died. The female victim, 42, of Houston, whose name was not released, crossed an overpass, lost control of the vehicle and hit a curb on the east side of the road. Reports say that according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, cell phone use played a role in 18 percent of all fatal distracted driving crashes. More than three-quarters of teens under 17 have cell phones, and almost 90% of those use texting.
