Lawsuit Claims Enbrel Caused Cancer

One patient is suing Immunex, Pfizer, Wyeth, and some distributors of the arthritis drug, claiming the drug caused cancer, reports say.

The patient, Wayne Stone Sr., is suing with the claim that Enbrel gave him lymphoma. He also claimed that drugmakers hid Embrel side effecte from physicians and patients. According to reports, he says he was cancer-free and in good health prior to receiving Enbrel injections for his rheumatoid arthritis; now he says he is disabled.

Reports say Stone says that within 180 days of its approval by the FDA 30 serious infections and six deaths occurred. Reports say the suit alleges that the companies failed to note such known serious side effects as lupus, MS, optic neuritis, polymyostitis, swelling of the brain, meningitis, encephalitis, sepsis and death.
