Woman Dies on Roller Coaster

Louisiana inspectors are focusing on the restraining device on a 21-year-old woman’s seat which may have failed, vaulting the woman from a Baton Rouge Amusement park’s roller coaster, killing her, reports say

Lindsay Zeno was killed when the bar that goes between the rider’s legs and is supposed to secure the rider in place reportedly failed. The coaster, named the “Xtreme”, has had no previous issues with safety or safety restraints. Reports also say the park passed a national inspection in May.

As a result of the accident, both the Blue Bayou and Dixie Landin’ Amusement parks have apparently been named in lawsuits from customers claiming various injuries. Reports also say that at least two civil suits have been settled since the spring of last year, while two others are still pending.

Reports from the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office said Zeno fell about 30 feet out of the roller coaster ride. Investigators are still waiting to meet with the manufacturers of the ride to find out the exact weight limit and determine if that was a factor in this case. The manufacturers were scheduled to visit Baton Rouge and try to figure out what went wrong. Human error has not been ruled out. Zeno was only 21 years old. She graduated from Northside High School in Lafayette in 2007.
